Cyberpunk 2077's Farewell & Update 2.01

cyberpunk 2.01 update

Cyberpunk 2077's journey has been nothing short of a wild ride, and I, like many cyberpunk fans, eagerly anticipated the moment when CD Projekt Red would finally release their long-awaited update 2.0, two weeks ago. Update 2.0 marked a significant moment for CD Projekt Red, as they declared it the last major update before shifting their focus to future projects.

With Cyberpunk 2077's remarkable three-year journey of development, witnessing its evolution into an extraordinary game, I couldn't help but experience a blend of exhilaration and nostalgia as I eagerly delved into this game-changing update.

When I first launched version 2.0, I encountered a handful of bugs, which left me feeling mildly disappointed. Yet, my optimism and determination to immerse myself in Night City's sprawling, neon-soaked world remained unshaken. I've waited for a long time and refused to start a new character before 2.0 after all. Thankfully, I can report that very little of these issues were game-breaking, and I was soon enjoying my adventures as a Netrunner again (Thank goodness for auto-save).

While update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty DLC marks the end of major content additions for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has made it clear that they are far from finished with the game. Their commitment to enhancing the player experience remains steadfast, and this commitment was underscored by the recent announcement of Patch 2.01.

Patch 2.01 is set to deliver crucial fixes and improvements, addressing some of the most persistent issues that have plagued the game since its launch. These are the patch notes from their official website:

  • The distorted effect caused by selecting a specific dialogue option when talking to Johnny at the end of Automatic Love will no longer persist on the screen.

  • V will no longer die in The Heist by falling through the elevator when riding to the 42nd floor with low FPS.

  • Fixed an issue where the UI could show controller inputs when playing with keyboard and mouse.

  • Made it possible to properly switch to arms cyberware by cycling through weapons.

  • Gig: Breaking News will be properly triggered after approaching the quest area.

  • Vehicle radio volume will be adjusted so it's not too quiet when compared to other sounds in the game.

  • Addressed the issue of corrupted saves on PlayStation by increasing the maximum save file size limit. Note: this won't fix the saves corrupted before the update. If you're experiencing the issue, keep a working save (e.g. resave it as manual save) till 2.01 arrives.

  • Performance improvements for both PC and consoles, especially in the Dogtown area.

These highlights from Patch 2.01 represent just a fraction of what's to come. I'm sure we will never fully rid the game of bugs, but knowing that CD Projekt Red is putting in all the effort to make this game as perfect as it can puts a smile to my face.
